Seven police departments have provided details on how much they spend on informants. However, they have not given details on how many people were on their payroll or whether any informants were convicted of crimes.
The Epoch Times requested information on covert human intelligence sources (CHISs) from 10 police officers and the National Crime Agency (NCA), under the Freedom of Information Act.
The 10 forces with which they were partnered refused to give information on the number of individuals who had been registered as CHISs

for the year ending March 2022 and how that compares to the 10 years prior.
Police Scotland claimed: “Disclosure would present an increased risk to those operating as CHIS as it would lead to members of organised crime groups seeking to identify any CHIS who may be reporting their activities … Disclosure would allow apparent spikes to be identified that could in turn be associated to a particular serious crime and compromise a CHIS operation.”…
