The NFL postponed a primetime matchup between two potential superbowl favorites mid-game after Damar Hamlin, a Bills player, collapsed on the field. This is the first such incident in recent memory.
The incident happened after Hamlin fought Tee Higgins (Bengals wide receiver). Hamlin was able to stand up by himself, appearing to be fine, and then suddenly fell unconscious. Hamlin was revived by medical personnel who rushed to the scene and gave him CPR for several minutes. Hamlin received oxygen, and was taken off the field on an ambulance. The ambulance rushed Hamlin to the University of Cincinnati for treatment. He is currently in critical condition.
The NFL released a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Damar and all of the Buffalo Bills.” We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. The NFL is in constant communication and agreement with the NFL Players Association to postpone the game.”
Hamlin was lying on the ground with his head protected by medical personnel. However, no information or details were immediately available regarding the cause of the collapse or his current condition.
