Los Angeles Police Department has banned the Thin Blue Line Flag because it allegedly represents “undemocratic and racist views” that are held by extremist groups.
The Thin Blue Line emblem is a propolice emblem. It is believed to symbolize the thin line between lawlessness and order in society, which is maintained by law enforcers who wear blue uniforms.
Chief Michel Moore, LAPD, sent an email on Friday to department staff announcing that they were banning the Thin Blue Line sign. The LAPD has prohibited the Thin Blue Line emblem from being displayed on public property.
Moore said that the Thin Blue Line had been “hijacked” by “extremist” organizations to defend the ban. Moore claimed that he was the victim of a community complaint about the Thin Blue Line flag being displayed in the lobby at the police station. According to the complaint, the Thin Blue Line flag was “symbolizing support for violent extremist viewpoints such as those expressed by the Proud Boys or others.”
Moore told Fox News, “It’s unfortunate that extremist groups have hijacked the use of the ‘Thin Blue Line flag’ to symbolize their undemocratic, racist, and bigoted views.”
