
Katie Hobbs (D.), Arizona governor’s press secretary, resigned Wednesday after she tweeted a threat image calling out transphobes hours after a transgender gunman killed six people at an Arizona Christian school.
Josselyn Berry, the spokeswoman for the group, tweeted Monday night a gif of a woman holding handguns, with the caption “Us when you see transphobes.” Audrey Hale, a transgender gunman, also shot three nine-year-olds as well as three adults at Nashville’s Covenant School.
Hobbs’s office in a Wednesday statement accepted Berry’s resignation over the post, saying the governor “does not condone violence in any form.”
“The position held by the Press secretary is not representative of the administration’s values,” said the governor’s bureau.
Hobbs is facing a new challenge after Berry’s resignation. This comes just a few months after she won a slim victory in the November elections. There has been fierce opposition to Berry’s plans to disband the border enforcement team that specializes in drug busts, at a moment when illegal immigrants are flooding into the country.
Berry was met with a flood of calls calling for her resignation following the Arizona Republicans tweet.
