
According to police, a homeowner in Texas won’t be charged with a crime after shooting a suspected burglar. He left the man in a “pool” of blood in his bathroom.
The police were called just after midnight Friday to the Wildwood Avenue home in Beaumont, Texas on an alarm about a burglary that was in progress.
As they rushed to the scene, a homeowner informed them that he shot the burglar.
Police found a wounded man in the bathroom when they arrived. The suspect in the robbery was identified as Jason Omar Cruz.
According to the police department, an officer used a tourniquet on the suspect and “was instrumental in saving his life.”
He was transferred to a local clinic for treatment.
A spokesperson from the Beaumont Police Department explained to KBMT-TV the reason why the homeowner would not be charged with the shooting.
“Even though it was them who shot the suspect, the person is still the victim.” Haley Morrow said that the suspect was the one who had broken the law, committed a crime, and as a consequence he got shot.
Cruz will go to Jefferson County Jail once he has been released from hospital. His bond was already set at $100,000.
