Dwayne Haskins’ widow says that her husband was a victim of a blackmail plot and had been drugged as he walked down Florida’s freeway, where he was struck by a truck.
His fans and Steelers teammates mourned Haskins’ death in April 2022 after he stumbled onto a Florida highway. The 24-year old had stopped his car at the sideline of the highway in search of fuel.
A year later, his widow stated in a lawsuit that her husband was the victim of an elaborate criminal scheme.
Kalabrya Haskins sued four people she claims drugged the quarterback “to blackmail and rob him causing him and/or contributing to cause him severe injury and death.”
A toxicology report revealed that Haskins’ blood alcohol level was far above the legal limit, along with ketamine (and norketamine) levels.
Rick Ellsley, the attorney who filed the lawsuit, stated that there were still many questions regarding his death.
“It is believed that Dwayne was targeted and drugged as part of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy,” said Ellsley in a statement. “In fact, his highly-expensive watch was stolen from him shortly before his death.”
The lawsuit also names Haskins the driver of a dump truck that struck Haskins
