What happened?FIFA, an international soccer federation, has refused to allow the Danish national soccer team to practice in shirts that promote “human rights and all” at the World Cup. It will begin later in the month in Qatar.
Seriously? Yes. The FIFA chief executive stated that the request was rejected by Denmark’s soccer association “due to technical grounds.” The seemingly innocent phrase was likely deemed too “political”, due to the host’s terrible human rights record, and connections to terrorist organizations.
Wait, what? Human rights groups condemned Qatar’s use of forced labor to construct the infrastructure needed to host the World Cup. There are more than 6,500 migrant workers who have died in the country since 2020. The country is a longstanding fan of Hamas as well al Qaeda and Taliban.
Why is Qatar hosting the World Cup in Qatar? Because FIFA is an irredeemably corrupt organisation that represents an irredeemably corruption sport. A U.S. Justice Department investigation revealed that Qatar and Russia were bribed by FIFA officials to secure hosting rights.
