After her early morning shift was over, a 24-year-old Chicago Police officer was fatally shot.
Areanah Preston of the Chicago Police Department was shot more than once after her shift on Saturday on the South Side. Officers rushed to Avalon Park and discovered Preston with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers gave Preston life-saving treatments. Then Preston was loaded into a police vehicle and rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center – where she was pronounced dead.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported, “The shooting happened during an apparent stickup that officials believe might be related to another nearby robbery, according to law enforcement sources, who said Preston’s gun was taken.”
Preston’s colleagues gathered to show their support at the hospital, and a procession of police took his body to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The murder of Areanah p. Preston was not solved by arrests.
Preston was described as a person “trying make a change” on Earth and showing “young people policing a profession can make a real difference in the community.”
