'All we can do is keep praying': Britney Spears' father gives first interview in a decade, believes controversial conservatorship may have kept pop star alive


Britney Spears’ dad Jamie Spears gave his first interview for more than a decade. The rare interview saw the father of Britney Spears speak out about his daughter’s conservatorship as well as the #FreeBritney movement.

According to Spears, the elder Spears stated to Daily Mail that “Not everyone’s going be able agree with me.” It has been quite a journey. But I love my daughter with all of my heart. Britney wouldn’t be here right now if she didn’t have that conservatorship. And I don’t know if they’d still be here.

Spears was arrested at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Jan. 3, 2008 for refusing to hand over her sons, Kevin Federline. Police believe Spears was under the influence a unidentified substance.

Spears was then involuntarily transferred to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center’s psychiatric Ward for evaluation and treatment during a 72-hour emergency, also known as a 5150.

Spears was placed under a conservatorship for 13 years – which gave her father complete control of her assets.

Spears’ father said that his son was “broke” at the time, despite him being one of the most successful entertainers ever.
