A 82-year old man was charged with selling fake trading cards worth $800,000. This includes Michael Jordan rookie cards.

A Colorado man was charged in connection to a scheme that involved selling fake sports trading cards and receiving authentic cards in return.

According to the Department of Justice, the Eastern District of New York, an 80-year-old man was taken into custody in Denver for defrauding enthusiasts of sports trading cards. This scheme, which authorities describe as “far-reaching” and spanned many years, was reported by the Department of Justice.

Between April 2015 and July 2019, the man made more than $800,000. He also conspired with others to sell counterfeit cards, including 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie cards. After being graded a 10/10 from Beckett Grading Services, one of these cards was sold for $100,000 in 2011.

In exchange for counterfeits, he received more than $800,000.

According to the FBI, the man “defrauded collectors of sports memorabilia of more than $800,000. He intentionally misrepresented the authenticity of trading cards he was selling when they were fake.”
